Notes on sustainability

When you choose a Burr & Knot piece, you are investing in the future. All our materials are ethically sourced, from certified British timber merchants and we are passionate about preserving English woodland, already replanting trees on our own land.

A POSITIVE IMPACT

Sustainability, sourcing, materials and suppliers

We love nature’s materials and it’s our deep understanding of how they work which allows us to stretch the boundaries of furniture making, looking to new and innovative processes, bringing a tantalisingly exciting element to traditional craftsmanship methods. Right at the core of our business, is our pledge to create a business that gives back to our planet more than it takes. When you purchase a Burr & Knot piece, you can be sure it’s environmentally responsible, created from materials that are ethically sourced for certified merchants.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Unique and sustainable furniture that tells nature’s story.

This very special patch of rural Cornwall has provided inspiration for the furniture we design and make.

All our wood furniture is made from responsibly sourced timber, primarily sourced on the British Isles. Where we can, we use local materials and support Cornish craftspeople so we know the origin of every part of our tables. Whilst we don’t profess to be perfect but we do take care to understand our environmental impact and how we can continue to invest in our planet with efforts to be greener. Our goal is to be carbon neutral by 2023 and carbon negative by 2025, by investing in our reforesting project, renewable energy sources and reduced carbon deliveries.

GIVING BACK

Growing our own woodland and investing in our future.

Woodland cover in Cornwall is exceptionally low and last year was averaged at just 9% compared to a UK average of 13% and European average of 37%, and in 2019 Cornwall council set out specific plans to foster tree planting across the county. We are supporting this initiative ourselves, by investing in land to rewild and will continue to plant and grow a range of trees, including fostering our own orchard. Every time a Burr & Knot piece is purchased a tree is planted on our land. Our aim with all of this, is to give back more than we take from the land, to add to the longevity of our business and in turn our planet.
