Notes on sustainability
INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
Choose an ethical furniture partner
At the heart of every project is our commitment to the environment. When you choose a Burr & Knot piece, you are investing in the future. All our materials are ethically sourced, from certified British timber merchants and we are passionate about preserving English woodland, already replanting trees on our own land.
Moving to Cornwall our founder James Anderson was struck with how barren the landscape was in comparison to the Sussex countryside where he grew up. In fact, last year woodland cover averaged at just 9% compared to a UK average of 13% and European average of 37%. Since then, he has made it his mission to learn about rewilding and aid efforts in fostering tree planting across the county.
“It was always really important for me to build a business that gave back more to the environment than we took. We are continually investing in land to rewild and will continue to plant and grow a range of trees, meaning that when you choose a Burr & Knot piece, you are investing in the future.
We always use certified timber merchants and where we can, source materials locally to support other Cornish craftspeople. We don’t profess to be perfect but do take care to understand our environmental impact and how we can continue to invest in efforts to be greener and see this as pure common sense to add to the longevity of our business and in turn our planet.”
— James Anderson, Burr & Knot Owner
MATERIALS WE USE
Our suppliers
Our mission is to produce honest and authentic furniture that celebrates nature, connecting art with functionality. We love natural materials and unexpected pairings, so you’ll often find us experimenting with contrasting materials such as marble, slate, jesmonite and resin which brings an exciting element to traditional craftsmanship methods and a contemporary feel to our pieces.
All our wood furniture is made from responsibly sourced timber, primarily sourced on the British Isles. Where we can, we use local materials and support Cornish craftspeople so we know the origin of every part of our tables.
