Burr & Knot’s designs are a celebration of nature. Each product is hand-carved using sustainable wood and natural stone, taking inspiration from the kaleidoscope shapes, patterns and colours found in the wild, crafted using traditional methods with contemporary twists in our Cornish woodland workshop.

We draw inspiration from nature’s most intricate forms, reimagined as unique pieces of sculptural furniture crafted from clashing sustainable materials, designed to take you from everyday weeknight suppers to special occasions, fusing finesse and functionality. In this series, we’re exploring the natural landscapes of our Cornish home, that have provided inspiration for our latest collection.

Set high on Cornwall’s rugged north coast, Tintagel inspires conjured images of mediaeval knights and romantic mythical tales, due in part to its link to the legend of King Arthur, but also because of its dramatic cliff top position. Craggy slate-infused cliffs line the coastline and a National Trust walk starting from Bossiney Cove, takes you across coarse landscapes, clambering up steep slopes and dodging sheer drops to discover hidden coves, sandy beaches and fresh waterfalls.

It is easy to see, even today, why Tintagel is known as one of the slate capital’s of Cornwall. Rocky walls shine bright black, highlighted by burnt gorse and startling blue sea. An often overlooked stone eponymous with Cornwall, you may have noticed that we use a lot of slate in our designs as table tops or frames, gently hand polishing to bring out its natural pattern formed over time by the wild weathering of the Cornish sea.

Named after the slate capital of Cornwall, our Tintagel round kitchen and dining table embraces this dazzling natural material to full effect. Your choice of slate or oak circular table top sits on an angular slate base.

The perfect size for a family kitchen table or smaller dining table, comfortably seating four, we have used natural oils to bring out the distinct markings and colours of the slate, making this table creation stunning in its simplicity.
